How to Change a Windows PC Name
Rename a Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer safely.
Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.
Check dependencies
If the PC belongs to a workplace domain or is managed by an organization, ask the administrator before renaming it.
Open About
Press Windows + I, select System, then About.
Start the rename
Select Rename this PC, enter a short unique name without unsupported punctuation, and select Next.
Restart
Save open work and restart when prompted.
Verify the name
After signing back in, run hostname or revisit System > About.
