Confirm that Windows can communicate with a printer.

Updated September 2, 2026Difficulty: EasyTime: 5 minApplies to: Windows, Windows 10, Windows 11

Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.

Open the printer

Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and select the printer.

Open Printer properties

Select Printer properties. Do not confuse this with the separate Printing preferences window.

Print the test

On the General tab select Print Test Page.

Interpret the result

If the page prints, Windows and the driver can reach the printer. If it remains queued, inspect the queue, connection, and Print Spooler.
