How to Share a Printer in Windows

Share a printer attached to one Windows PC with authorized users on a trusted network.

Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.

Prepare the host PC

Confirm the printer works locally and the host PC will remain powered on and connected.

Open Printer properties

Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the printer, then Printer properties.

Enable sharing

On the Sharing tab select Share this printer and choose a clear share name.

Enable trusted-network sharing

Set the host network to Private and enable Network discovery and File and printer sharing.

Connect from another PC

Add a shared printer using \ComputerNamePrinterShareName.

Protect access

Use authorized user credentials and do not expose Windows file/printer sharing directly to the internet.
