Printer Troubleshooting

Printer troubleshooting is the process of isolating whether a printing failure comes from a document, computer, queue, connection or printer.

Troubleshooting instructions, reference material, and troubleshooting.

How do I narrow down a printer problem?

Check the printer's display, power and connection, then identify who is affected. Try a small document from the affected PC. If other PCs can print, focus on that PC's selection and queue; if nobody can print, check the shared connection or printer first.

When should I use the queue or spooler guide?

Use the queue guide when jobs are stuck or the wrong job is blocking work. Investigate the spooler when Windows reports a printing-service failure or multiple applications cannot print. Check other users' jobs before clearing a shared queue or restarting its service.
