How to Map a Network Drive

Give a Windows network share a drive letter.

Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.

Verify the share first

Open \ComputerNameShareName in File Explorer before mapping it.

Open Map network drive

In File Explorer select This PC, then use the toolbar or three-dot menu to select Map network drive.

Choose a letter and path

Choose an unused drive letter and enter the UNC share path.

Choose reconnect behavior

Enable Reconnect at sign-in only when the share is normally available.

Finish and verify

Select Finish, authenticate if requested, and open a test file you are authorized to use.
