How to Create a Network Share in Windows
Share a folder with specific people on a trusted Windows network.
Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.
Choose a safe folder
Create or choose a data folder. Do not share the root of the system drive or a Windows system folder.
Confirm a trusted Private network
Use sharing only on a trusted home or work network and keep the firewall enabled.
Open sharing settings
Right-click the folder, select Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing, then select Share this folder.
Set a clear share name
Use a short name without sensitive information.
Set permissions
Grant access only to the users or groups that need it. Remember that both share permissions and Security-tab NTFS permissions apply.
Record the path
Use the displayed path in the form \ComputerNameShareName and test it from an authorized second PC.
