How to Access a Windows Network Share

Open a shared folder by computer name and share name.

Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.

Get the exact path

Ask the owner for the computer name and share name.

Open File Explorer

Press Windows + E and select the address bar.

Enter the UNC path

Enter the path in the form \ComputerNameShareName and press Enter.

\\ComputerName\ShareName
Expected result

Windows opens the share or asks for credentials.

Sign in correctly

Use an account authorized on the computer hosting the share. Do not save credentials on a public or shared PC.

Troubleshoot safely

Confirm both PCs are on the same reachable trusted network and that Network discovery and File and printer sharing are enabled.
