How to Change Speakers in Windows

Choose which speakers, headset, monitor, or dock plays sound.

Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.

Open Quick Settings

Select the speaker/network area on the taskbar.

Open the output list

Select the arrow beside the volume slider.

Choose the device

Select the intended speakers, headphones, monitor, or dock.

Test at low volume

Start with low volume, play a known sound, and raise it gradually.

Use full settings if needed

Open Settings > System > Sound to configure defaults per application.
