Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.

Open Sound settings

Press Windows + I, select System, then Sound.

Choose Input

Under Input select the intended microphone.

Test it

Speak normally and watch the input level or use Start test.

Check privacy access

If an app cannot record, open Privacy & security > Microphone and allow access only for the apps that need it.

Avoid excessive gain

Adjust input volume so normal speech is clear without remaining at maximum.
