Disk Space

Disk space is the storage capacity on a drive, divided into used space and space available for new files.

Disk Space instructions, reference material, and troubleshooting.

Which drive is running out of space?

Check the drive letter and available capacity before removing anything. The Windows system drive, a separate data drive and an external backup drive are different targets. Use the disk-space guide to identify the affected drive and the files using it.

Is freeing space the same as repairing a disk?

No. Cleanup removes files you no longer need; it does not repair a failing drive or file-system damage. Keep a backup of important data and use a disk-repair guide when the symptom is an error rather than a lack of capacity.
