Backup

A backup is a separate copy of data kept so it can be recovered after loss, damage or an unwanted change.

Backup instructions, reference material, and troubleshooting.

Is a Windows restore point a backup of my files?

No. A restore point supports recovery of certain system settings and components; it is not a separate copy of all personal documents. Use the restore-point guide for system recovery preparation and maintain an appropriate backup for the files you need to keep.

How do I check whether a backup is usable?

Confirm what it includes, when it last completed and how you would restore it. Test recovery to a separate safe location when possible. A success notification alone does not confirm that a particular missing file was included or can be recovered.
