How to Check for Windows Updates
Check for security, quality, and driver updates in Windows.
Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.
Save important work
Updates can require a restart.
Open Windows Update
Press Windows + I and select Windows Update.
Check for updates
Select Check for updates and allow downloads and installation to finish.
Review optional updates
Install optional drivers only when they address a known problem or come from a trusted source.
Restart and verify
Restart when required, return to Windows Update, and confirm the device is up to date.
