How to Take a Screenshot in Windows

Capture the whole screen, one window, or a selected region.

Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.

Protect private information

Close or hide passwords, messages, account numbers, and unrelated windows before capturing.

Open screen snipping

Press Windows + Shift + S.

Choose a mode

Select rectangular, freeform, window, or full-screen capture.

Capture the area

Drag over the needed area or select the intended window.

Save and review

Open the notification, crop to the relevant area, add useful annotations, and review the image before sharing it.
