Follow the steps in order and stop if the screen or target does not match what is described. Use administrator access only when the task requires it.

**Before you begin**

Save open work. Confirm that you are working on the intended computer and that you are authorized to make the change.

## Open PowerShell

A normal session is sufficient for these read-only checks.

## View active configuration

Run Get-NetIPConfiguration.

Command

```
Get-NetIPConfiguration
```

## List adapters

Run Get-NetAdapter and look for Up status.

Command

```
Get-NetAdapter | Sort-Object Status, Name
```

## Inspect DNS servers

Run Get-DnsClientServerAddress.

Command

```
Get-DnsClientServerAddress -AddressFamily IPv4
```

## Test a service port

Replace the host and port with the service you are authorized to test.

Command

```
Test-NetConnection -ComputerName server.example -Port 443
```

## Do not confuse reachability with authorization

An open port does not grant permission to use or administer a system.

**Verify the result**

Repeat the relevant check and confirm the intended result before considering the task complete.
