A command line is a text interface for running tools and scripts in a shell such as Command Prompt, PowerShell or Bash.

## Which shell does this command need?




Use the shell named by the guide. Command Prompt, PowerShell and Bash differ in their commands, quoting and variables. Copying an example into the wrong shell can fail or produce a different result, even when the command names look similar.




## What should I check before running a command?




Check the target computer, current folder, required permissions and expected output. Read any placeholders and replace them deliberately. Start with a query where the guide offers one, and keep the returned error text if the command fails.
